Welcome to My Blog
A Multipotentialite on the Move

“As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live”
~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Introduction

Let me just go ahead and say it — I’m 57 years old. Whew. There, I said it out loud. Not out of shame, but out of truth. In a world — especially the IT world — where ageism quietly lingers in the corners, I’ve kept that number tucked away. But it’s time to speak from where I truly am.

I grew up in an era where the roadmap to success was clear: get educated in one field, find a good job, stay there until retirement, and move up the ladder. That was the blueprint — stable, linear, respectable. And I did my best to follow it. Degrees in Mathematics, 25+ years in software development, and a career that checked all the “right” boxes. Along the way, I took some creative detours — a few attempts to break into the film industry (no luck there) — but ultimately found myself back on the familiar IT track.

Lately, though, that path has felt… hollow. With every rejection, with every dismissive glance toward my age, I’ve started to wonder if the fight is still worth it. That’s a story for another day, but it’s part of why I’m here now.

When I didn’t know what else to do, I returned to something that always grounds me: writing. Years ago, I had the idea to start a blog. But then came the questions — What should I write about? What’s my niche? What’s my one thing? I spent years chasing that one golden topic that could hold my interest and attract my “tribe.” I kept reading that success comes from focus. Specialization. Linear thinking.

But here’s the thing: I’m not linear.

I’m a scanner. A multipotentialite. Barbara Sher gave me the first word for it, and Emilie Wapnick expanded that definition. According to Google AI (because, of course I asked), a multipotentialite is someone with many different interests and creative pursuits, who explores multiple paths in life — sometimes all at once. While specialists dive deep, multipotentialites go wide, finding joy in learning, exploring, and connecting seemingly unrelated dots.

For years, I thought my many interests made me flaky. Scattered. Undecided. But now I see it differently. I’m not lost — I’m layered. I’m not confused — I’m curious. This blog is my space to embrace that.

So, what can you expect here? A little of everything. Career reflections. My weight loss and wellness journey. Thoughts on aging, tech, creativity, self-discovery, and maybe even the occasional story about film, writing, or whatever catches my brain on fire that week.

I’m done waiting for the perfect plan. I’m done trying to package myself into a box that was never meant for me. This blog is my experiment, my playground, my journal, and maybe, just maybe, a space that helps others like me feel a little more seen.

Let’s jump in and mess around — multipotentialite style. 💫
