Re-Evaluating

Fourth of July doesn’t stand out to me. It hasn’t for years now. I mean, I may look out the window if I hear fireworks but that’s about it. Now that I think about it, it’s never been a big holiday. One year our neighborhood set off fireworks, in Kansas City, which feels like 100 years before they started banning the sale of fireworks. Now you have to drive to a park somewhere to see the official fireworks, which I have no interest in doing. Anyhow, that’s not why I’m writing today. I haven’t written in a while, it’s not that I’ve given up writing/blogging – I’ve been gardening while trying to figure out how I want to proceed.

I’m still looking for income (a job or freelance) and with me blogging, my idea was to write about that process. Truth be told, it’s all boring to me… which might be one reason I’m struggling to find work. And saying this out loud, I’m sure, will not be helpful. That feeling of boredom is why I haven’t figured out a way to make this job searching process, at least, somewhat interesting.

Each day, I spend a good portion of it looking at current events. What’s going on here in the world is beyond crazy. Because that is most of my day, I had ideas of writing about this mess. However, too many people are doing just that, plus, it’s another thing that is plain boring to write about, at least for me. Now I could do video clips but I’m not excited about seeing myself on video. I’m working on that, maybe it’s the lighting and I would like to lose some weight first.

Strategizing - What To Do Next

Even though I haven’t figured it all out, I believe I’m headed in the right direction. Especially seeing these major IT companies laying off professionals, looks like, mainly due to AI automating/doing their jobs. Microsoft is reducing organizational layers with fewer managers. Also, thirty percent of its code is now written by AI. The Amazon CEO is out here saying that “the rise of artificial intelligence will mean more job cuts, and the next wave could hit roles that could be automated”. Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO, also shared that ‘AI agents in Amazon are now used to handle coding, analytics, and research”, per the Fortune report.

I’ll end with this, as I continue to figure out my path forward, Jassy also expressed that new jobs will be created because of AI, like robotics, AI development, and roles that need creativity and complex decision-making. So, for me, continuing to look for Software Engineering/Programming jobs may be an exercise in making myself obsolete… maybe?

I was trying to post every day but going forward I will be posting every Thursday, with maybe some video clips here and there. Maybe it’s just about jumping into the pool. We’ll see.
