Note: Let me first say, please excuse my grammar. I do a lot of journal writing and I don’t worry about punctuation and such. I will work on my grammar as I go along but for now I didn’t want that to deter me from starting. Yes, there is Grammarly but I want to write in my voice/tone.
Introduction
I have to admit that I do like the fact that there is a way to get into the field and not have to go back to school. Now taking a class or two is fine, it is what I do all the time to keep current. With the knowledge that I could possibly get into the field with my current skill set I took ChatGPT on its offer of providing recent job offers with my skill set in mind. A plus, several of them are remote! 😃
This is the first job requirement that ChatGPT represented to me, and it is remote, which is one of my must haves. The company is New Light Technologies, a company that I have never heard of before, but that is understandable… since I am new to the field. Now this has been one of my major issues recently, companies I’ve never heard of and trying to figure out if it is a legitimate company. I have gotten so many calls from scam artists.
New Light Technologies’ website is nice. Looking on their contact page, their HQ is in Washington, DC. Now, being absolutely honest about my career change/job search, I am hesitant about any job in the DMV (or headquartered in the DMV). This administration is layoffing people at an alarming rate. In my opinion, it would not be wise to get a job where I could be let go shortly after starting. Although, maybe the fact that it’s remote… it may be worth a chance.
Geospatial Analyst is no longer listed on their career page. Sometimes I get to the point and get frustrated (again) and either don’t want to proceed or don’t know how to proceed. I have spent months on months looking for jobs online and I got to the point that there has to be a better way (yes, I know, networking… but even that gets frustrating). If only we got paid, even a small amount, to job search… lol. Anyhow, I will continue looking at the other listings ChatGPT provided.
All of this reminds me of “WhatsApp” creators, Brian Acton & Jan Kourn, how they went out and built their own app, after being rejected by Facebook (and also by Twitter, for Brian Acton). Which leads me to something else I will look into working on. When I was looking for Software Engineer jobs, with a focus on JavaScript. I created an app to showcase my skills. I am thinking about doing the same here, to showcase my interest. I’ve asked ChatGPT for some ideas and I see one that looks interesting. I will blog about it once I get started.
