New Administration’s AI Investment
I have to admit that I haven’t started on my next Vector Database article but in looking for another job I read about Trump’s AI investment and wanted to talk about it today briefly. About a month ago I came across this new newsletter, Semafor. I don’t remember where I came across it but it is very informative.
It is my understanding that Semafor was started by two gentlemen (Ben Smith, from The New York Times, and Justin B. Smith, from Bloomberg Media Group) who left their legacy media jobs, and created this new News Website. Legacy media has not been great though I don’t know if that is why they left. They now have an impressive group of journalists from all over the world.

Diego Mendoza, Breaking News Reporter, who previously interned at CNN and ABC News, wrote an article entitled “Trump announces $500B AI investment alongside Open AI, Softbank and Oracle”, which piqued my interest. This joint, called Stargaze, will start by opening a data center in Texas. Mendoza mentioned that “The announcement came after Trump rescinded the Biden administration’s sweeping AI executive order, essentially eliminating guardrails designed to safeguard consumers.
I know there is a big thing about DEI lately but this is concerning to me, as an African American. Joy Buolamwini, who created “Algorithmic Justice League” and wrote “Unmasking AI”, warns us of AI harms and oppression. She talks about “the coded gaze”, which is the evidence of encoded discrimination and exclusion in tech products. I will continue to pay attention to all of this, as time goes on. It’s time for me to speak up, as an African American Woman in STEM.
